Version 1.3 — August 2026
Quick summary: Saunafinder.fi does not use analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies today. We use a small amount of necessary browser storage (your language choice and your cookie choices) and two essential login cookies: one for the site administrator, and one that is set only if you choose to sign in to an optional customer account. If you browse and book without signing in, we set no cookies on your device. The site shows a consent banner so that if we ever add analytics or marketing tools, they stay off unless you allow them. You can change your choices at any time via the "Cookie settings" link in the footer.
What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that websites can store on your computer or mobile device. They are sent back to the website with each page request. Cookies are often used to remember preferences, maintain login sessions, or track user behavior for analytics or advertising purposes.
How Saunafinder.fi Uses Cookies and Browser Storage
Saunafinder.fi sets two cookies, both essential login cookies. sf_admin_session keeps the site administrator signed in to the admin panel, and sf_customer_session keeps you signed in if you choose to create a customer account. Each is set only when the person concerned actually logs in, so if you are browsing or booking a sauna without signing in, Saunafinder.fi sets no cookies on your device at all. Booking never requires an account.
About the sf_admin_session cookie:
- Purpose: essential — it maintains the administrator's login session and nothing else
- Who receives it: only the site administrator, after signing in; ordinary visitors never receive it
- What it contains: a signed session token with an expiry time — no personal data and no browsing history
- Lifetime: expires after 24 hours
- Security: HttpOnly (not readable by page scripts), Secure (HTTPS only), SameSite=Strict
About the sf_customer_session cookie:
- Purpose: essential, it keeps you signed in to your customer account and nothing else
- Who receives it: only you, and only if you sign in using the one-time login link we email you. Accounts are optional and are never needed to book
- What it contains: a signed token with your account email address and an expiry time, no browsing history
- Lifetime: expires after 30 days, and is cleared immediately if you log out or delete your account
- Security: HttpOnly (not readable by page scripts), Secure (HTTPS only), SameSite=Lax
In addition to those cookies, the site uses your browser's localStorage for two small items. Both are necessary preferences, not tracking; they never leave your device and are not sent to us:
- sf_lang: your chosen site language (EN, FI or SV), so it carries across pages
- sf_consent: your cookie consent choices from the banner, so we do not ask you again on every visit
Because these are essential, no consent is required for them under GDPR. You do not need to accept anything to use Saunafinder.fi.
The Consent Banner
On your first visit the site shows a consent banner with three options: accept all, necessary only, or settings with per-category choices. The categories are:
- Necessary: always on. The items described above.
- Analytics: currently empty. We use no analytics tools today. If we add one, it will only run if you have allowed this category.
- Marketing: currently empty. We use no advertising or tracking tools today. If we add any, they will only run if you have allowed this category.
You can change or withdraw your choices at any time via the Cookie settings link in the footer of every page. Withdrawing consent takes full effect from your next page load.
No Analytics or Marketing Cookies
We do not currently use:
- Google Analytics or any other analytics/tracking cookies
- Facebook Pixel or other social media tracking pixels
- Advertising cookies for retargeting or targeted ads
- Heat mapping or session recording tools
Your browsing activity on Saunafinder.fi is not tracked or analyzed. For more information on how we handle website usage data, see our Privacy Policy.
Third-Party Cookies: Stripe
Apart from the login cookies described above, the only cookies you may encounter when using Saunafinder.fi come from Stripe, our payment processor.
When you complete a booking and are redirected to the Stripe Checkout page (checkout.stripe.com), Stripe may set cookies on their own domain for the purposes of:
- Processing your payment securely
- Preventing fraud
- Maintaining your checkout session
These cookies are set by Stripe, not by Saunafinder.fi. For details on how Stripe handles cookies and data, see Stripe's Privacy Policy.
Other Third-Party Content
Some pages load content from third-party servers. Loading content this way sends your IP address and a standard browser request to that server, as with any web resource, but to our knowledge none of these set cookies on Saunafinder.fi:
- OpenStreetMap (tile.openstreetmap.org): the map images on the sauna listing and detail pages. See the OSM Foundation privacy policy.
- unpkg.com: the Leaflet map library (scripts and styles) used to display those maps.
- Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com): the site's typefaces.
- Unsplash (images.unsplash.com): some listing and page photos.
How to Control Cookies
If you want to control or delete cookies set by Stripe or other websites:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies and other site data
- Firefox: Preferences → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Edge: Settings → Privacy and Security → Clear browsing data → Cookies
Most browsers also allow you to disable third-party cookies entirely without affecting your ability to use Saunafinder.fi.
Future Changes
If we add analytics, marketing, or other tracking tools to Saunafinder.fi in the future, they will be placed in the matching consent category and will only run for visitors who have allowed that category. This page will be revised to reflect any changes before they take effect.
